Twelve student and youth unions from nine countries today formed the ‘Anti-Imperialist Forum of Students and Youths’ to fight against global imperialism.

In a press conference organised here today, UCPN-Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), a member of the forum, said the forum was established to combat global imperialism that had posed a challenge to progressive and national liberation movements across the globe.

ANNISU-R said the newly formed organisation would fight against commercialisation and privatisation of education, imperialism, expansionism and neo-liberalism.

The forum will also support people’s movements and all kinds of liberation struggles.

It has also vowed to take the initiative to stop brain drain; increase the budget for education and social welfare; unify the struggle against unemployment; oppose sexual, racial, linguistic and religious discrimination and unify immigrant youths, students and refugees in their struggles.

Likewise, degradation of environment, freedom of speech and right to information, free and scientific education in mother tongues, are among the issues the forum has said it will address.

The forum comprises the CARC party of Italy, Socialist Students’ Front of Bangladesh, Resistance Socialist Youth of Australia, Marxist-Leninist Communist Party of Turkey, and Revolutionary Student and Youth Front, Punjab Students’ Union and Progressive Democratic Students’ Union from India.

Likewise, ANAKBAYAN (Sons and Daughters of the People, Open Mass Organisation) of the Philippines, Student Youth Communist Organisation and Militant Students’ Movement from Greece and All Bhutan Students’ Union (Revolutionary) from Bhutan and ANNISU-R from Nepal are other members of the forum.

The students and youths’ unions had come to Nepal to address the five-day long 18th National Convention of ANNISU-R, which concluded on December 14.

Yubaraj Chaulagain, former vice president of ANNISU-R said since the decision to form the common international forum was taken in a rush, they were yet to finalise further strategies to fight the common global problem...
